# Doomstep > Doomstep is an iPhone app that locks the apps you choose and lets you earn time on them by walking: 100 steps earns 1 minute. Doomstep is a walk to unlock screen time app for iPhone: an app blocker that makes you earn your screen time with steps. It is built on Apple's own Screen Time controls, for the person using the phone. It is not a parental-control app, not a step-rewards app that pays cash or gift cards, and not a treatment for anything. (Doomstep is also the name of a music genre. This Doomstep is the iPhone app.) Status, as of 27 September 2026: Doomstep is coming to iPhone. It is not on the App Store yet (App Store id 6813232596). iPhone only, iOS 17.2 or later, in the United States, Canada and Australia. ## How it works - You pick the apps to lock, like Instagram, TikTok, YouTube or X, in Apple's own Screen Time picker. They stay locked all day. Everything you didn't pick stays open. - Steps from your iPhone and Apple Watch earn minutes as they sync: 100 steps earns 1 minute, steps past your daily goal count double, and a day can earn up to 180 minutes. There is nothing to claim. Steps typed into Apple Health or added by other apps don't count. - You spend minutes on a 5, 15 or 30 minute break. The apps open, then lock again when the break ends, even if Doomstep is closed. Steps never unlock apps on their own: a break is always your tap. - Up to 60 unused earned minutes carry into the next day. - The daily goal is suggested from up to 14 days of your step history (7,000 steps when there is none), anywhere from 2,000 to 20,000 steps. - The first time a day's steps reach 500, a one-time welcome bonus tops your balance up to 15 minutes. - The Move tab records walks and makes shareable receipts, with no GPS. There is a weekly Climb, a count of weeks in a row, and a Day off you earn. - Taking an app off the locked list takes a 10-minute wait, then a confirm. Signing out unlocks your apps, and Screen Time access can be turned off in iPhone Settings at any time. ## Price - US: $39.99 a year, $9.99 a month or $4.99 a week. All plans give the same access. - New subscribers get a 7-day free trial, one per account, and the app sends a reminder 48 hours before the trial ends. - After the trial, Doomstep needs a subscription. There is no free tier. ## Privacy - Doomstep can lock the apps you choose, but it can't see which apps they are or what you do in them. - It reads your step count. Nothing else from Health, and it never writes to Health. - No GPS. Doomstep never records where you walk. - Your step history stays on your iPhone unless you turn on backup, walk with a friend or join a leaderboard. - No ads, no tracking and no third-party analytics in the app. The website counts page views with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies. - Delete your account any time in Settings. ## Key pages - [Doomstep: walk to unlock apps and earn your screen time](https://doomstep.com/): Doomstep, the walk to unlock app for iPhone, locks Instagram, TikTok and the other apps you pick.
